PEACEFUL SUNSET OVER HAWAII
The two-year journey of the Peace Bubble has entered a new phase as it arrives in the Port of Hilo on Saturday, November 15th.
Jerry Leggett's Peace Bubble journey began nearly two year's to the day in November 2006 and was inspired by a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. -- "If you want something to happen in your life, make space for it." Jerry acquired a retro, tear-drop style trailer that was christened the "Peace Bubble" a few weeks later in Phoenix, Arizona. His plan was to make stops at noon each day of 2007 and "sing out for peace" in a way that provided a safe space for American across the spectrum of life to dialogue about what makes for a more peaceful world.
What began as one man's journey to make music and explore questions of peace in America soon became the journey of tens of thousands of Americans as the Peace Bubble made its way to more than 230 stops in 43 states and 95,000 road miles. Jerry captured more than 7,000 interviews of ordinary people reflecting on what peace looks like for them. He broadcast them on youtube.com and his website; registering more than 250,000 views since January 1, 2007.
At a performance in Scottsdale Arizona, Jerry met visual artist/photographer, Patsy Ferrell, who was working as a readjustment counselor for the Phoenix Vet Center. Patsy soon joined Jerry in his peace mission, becoming the official tour photographer and a vital partner with Jerry. In the fall of 2007, Jerry and Patsy were invited to become volunteer Artists in Residence at the Dayton International Peace Museum.
In January 2008, Jerry and Patsy were joined in marriage in Scottsdale, Arizona and at Lady Bird Johnson Grove (Redwood National Park) in northern California.
As Jerry and Patsy imagined the next phase of their Peace Bubble mission, Patsy learned of an opportunity to continue her work with veterans on the Big Island of Hawaii. They became intrigued with the idea of making the Big Island a base of operations for the Peace Bubble mission including live events on the islands that Jerry will broadcast via the internet to their loyal Peace Bubble following.
In the next few weeks the Peace Bubble Cafe will make its debut tour around the island where Jerry will do informal performances and get better acquainted with local folk. Stay tuned right here for more details on the "Adventures of an Aluminum Bubble" --Hawaiian Style!
